2015: Royals 5, Mets 4 (14 innings)The Royals got off to a fast start in Game 1, when Alcides Escobar hit an inside-the-park leadoff homer in the bottom of the first. But the Mets fought back and found themselves with a 3-1 lead entering the bottom of the sixth before the Royals tied it back up. The Mets took the lead again in the eighth on an error, and they appeared poised for a series-opening 4-3 win. Jeurys Familia induced a groundout from Salvador Perez to start the ninth, but then he allowed a game-tying homer to Alex Gordon. The game went 14 innings, the longest World Series Game 1 by innings in history, with the Royals eventually winning on an Eric Hosmer walk-off sacrifice fly off Bartolo Colon. The game set the tone for the series, too, as the Mets held a lead at some point in each of the four games they lost en route to the Royals’ World Series win.

Due to overflow crowds at the Exposition Park games in Allegheny City, if a batted ball rolled under a rope in the outfield that held spectators back, a « ground-rule triple » would be scored. 17 ground-rule triples were hit in the four games played at the stadium.

Yankees: Juan Soto homered and had two hits in Game 2. Of his four homers this postseason, three have given the Yankees the lead, and one has tied the game. Stanton has six homers and 14 RBIs this postseason. Rizzo has produced a .520 on-base percentage. Judge continues to slump, now 6-for-40 (.150) with 19 strikeouts during this postseason. Jazz Chisholm Jr. (.186 BA) and Austin Wells (.098 BA) also have struggled.

• Tommy Edman got the scoring started with a homer in the second. He played center field on Saturday, becoming the second player in postseason history to homer as both a shortstop, as he did in the NLCS, and center fielder, joining teammate Chris Taylor, who accomplished the feat in 2017. Edman is the seventh Dodger with a World Series homer as a CF, joining Duke Snider (11), Pete Reiser, Taylor, Jim Wynn, Cody Bellinger and Hi Myers.
